If you've never watched
The Wire until this season and don't expect to go back starting with Season 1 DVDs (highly
recommended), or if you're a longtime viewer/fan who wants a quick recap, this
"4 Seasons in 4 Minutes" is a pretty funny to superficially catch up.
And he's not even Greek...

Having never watched The Wire, this was all new to me. All I got out of it was that the white guy was elected mayor, the Greek isn't Greek, McNulty is on the wagon,a lot of young black men killl one another, and Baltimore looks really ugly. Cannot understand the appeal at all - is it a guy thing?
It's a pretty male series with a few key female characters, but a few female friends are rabid fans. The show is a relentless take on how our cities are failing us, a rigorous critique of urban capitalism and its relationship to our social systems, and the most complex, character-filled, engrossing drama, arguably in TV history. One of the best aspects of The Wire is that it may run the viewer ragged through many plots and subplots in all kinds of language from departmental to street argot, but it never cheats the viewer on enough closure to make each season seem worthwhile. Because of the complexity and realism of the show, when the payoffs come they can be wildly cathartic. Even if the good guys don't always win.
