The McNasties

Taken separately now over the past few days, John McCain and chosen running mate Sarah Palin are really the nastiest two pieces of business in memory, making even memories El Presidente himself back in his glorious patriotism sneering salad days seeming positively "roguish" in comparison.

At the top of the ticket is a very, very angry and narcissistic man who let it all loose during his interview with the editors at the Des Moines Register -- which had endorsed him in the Primary:

McNasty can't even look Obama in the eye on the Senate floor anymore -- per David Nather at CQ Politics tonight:

Let the record reflect that Barack Obama made the approach to John McCain tonight.

As the two shared the Senate floor tonight for the first time since they won their party nominations, Obama stood chatting with Democrats on his side of the aisle, and McCain stood on the Republican side of the aisle.

So Obama crossed over into enemy territory.

He walked over to where McCain was chatting with Republican Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida and Independent Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut. And he stretched out his arm and offered his hand to McCain.

McCain shook it, but with a “go away” look that no one could miss. He tried his best not to even look at Obama.

Finally, with a tight smile, McCain managed a greeting: “Good to see you.”

Obama got the message. He shook hands with Martinez and Lieberman — both of whom greeted him more warmly — and quickly beat a retreat back to the Democratic side.

But while one can argue that McCain earned his crotchitity, who the hell does Sarah Palin think she is snarking on Joe Biden?:

Is this what "letting Palin be Palin" mean, as rightwing politicos have been calling for? Let her be an undercutty little sneak? Hee hee hee Second Grade hee hee hee. Stay on your playground if you like, Governor, but Joe Biden is an adult who answers questions directly, and whether or not you agree with his answer, at least there's actually somebody there. Compare their two answers on the Supreme Court in the CBS video here and see if the idea of her in Executive office doesn't scare you.

My prediction for the Thursday night Vice Presidential debate is that she will spout nothing but bullshit, and the only question is how artfully she does it. But it's the Obama problem in reverse -- she'll never be more legitimate than when she's on the same stage as Joe Biden. Thank the good Lord it's only for an hour and a half.

There's no love here except self-love, no love between the two, no love of McCain for anyone who questions him, no love of Palin for anything but Camera One. These two don't offer policies, ideologies or even principles that can help America in its time of need, so they offer nothing but hate in their own custom packages.

And the polls show it.

She astounds me with her inability to ANSWER the question! She's uncivil.

How have we, as a culture, reduced language and meaning to this?

SHE IS NOT SAYING ANYTHING. She's marking time with noise. That is it.

Empty deflectors.
